Welcome Back

“It’s Great to Be a Bronc”

As it always seems, summer flew by too fast and fall is upon us.  I am anticipating great things in the 2016-2017 School Year.  Our buildings and grounds look fantastic thanks to the efforts of our custodial/maintenance staff.  We are ready for the beginning of an exciting year

We have a number of new K-12 staff members this year and some new assignments for veteran staff.  It is difficult to replace the experience and knowledge of veteran teachers, but we hope the enthusiasm and commitment of our new teachers will help to inspire our students to learn.  The following are the new members of our teaching staff:

Elementary Teachers: Ryan Young Elementary Principal, Tina Rosenkranz Elementary Student Advisor, Ryan Bush & Emily Walter Special Education, Kathryn Simonyak Music, Megan Haag & Jennifer Worthington 1st grade, Kelsey Ruzicka 2nd grade, Mathew Wattier 3rd grade, and Holly Hamlin & Ann-Marie Hostetter 4th grade.

Middle School: Darin Newton Science, Zachery Pavlicek band, Tiffany Bierschenk 5th grade, Rachel Sanders Special Education, and Keenan Justice Math.

High School: Randi Feist English

Other changes in the School District include:

  • Mass Customized Learning” (MCL) in the high school will expanding to include more students. These students will work on their subjects at a self-paced rate.
  • The School Board approved a new 1-to-1 computer initiative for grades 8 through 12.  This program allows each student to have a laptop computer to use for school work at home and in their school building.  The School District’s plan is to continue to add a grade level each year until grades 5-12 have 1-to-1 computers.
  • Improvements to Lou Graslie field including more handicap accessible parking, more paving, grandstand cutouts for wheelchair accessibility, and a new ticket booth for the north end of the complex.

With the progressive vision of our School Board and the dedication and hard work of administrators and staff Belle Fourche continues to be an educational leader in Western South Dakota.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven A. Willard, Superintendent of Schools
